6 tips to prepare for your makeup trial

We consider ourselves wedding gurus, and we've worked with our brides to come up with our 6 top tips to ensure your trial is worthwhile:

ONE - TAN & HAIR TRIALS

Schedule a tan trial 1-2 days before your makeup trial, and your hair trial for the same day as your makeup trial.

Even the lightest, most natural tan has a substantial impact on your complexion and undertone, and therefore the overall makeup look. Without a tan, your makeup trial can be a total waste of time.

TWO - WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR TRIAL

Schedule a trial about 12 weeks out from your big day, so we can allow enough time to make any changes to your skincare routine if needed (remember: a makeup look is only as good as its canvas!).

Although your trial should be scheduled around the 12-week mark, it’s important that you get in early to secure your trial date.

THREE - TESTING OUT THE MAKEUP

Schedule your trial for mid-morning if possible - this is roughly when you’ll be having your makeup done on your wedding day, so by having your trial at the same time, you can wear your makeup all day and test out the longevity of your makeup.

FOUR - PREPARE FOR YOUR TRIAL

Your makeup trial includes a full consultation where we’ll look at the big picture of your wedding - not just the makeup.

Have an album (or a hidden album if needed) on your phone with photos of your dress, floral inspo, bridesmaid dresses, styling inspiration, hairstyling inspo, wedding colour palette - anything that can give an insight into your wedding as a whole.

I prefer to work without makeup inspo pics, so there’s no need to have any photos of your makeup inspiration. If you would like to bring any makeup photos along, the photos I’d love to see are:

  • a photo of a time where you’ve had your makeup done (or done it yourself) for an event and loved it

  • a photo of a time where you’ve hated your makeup look

  • inspo pics from my Instagram (please don’t bring pics of other artists’ work or pics from Pinterest)

FIVE - VISUALISE

Wear something white or light, or a similar colour to your wedding dress, with a similar neckline or similar amount of exposed skin. Makeup looks completely different against dark and light clothing and it can be hard to visualise if the colouring is substantially different.

SIX - DON’T RUSH

Allow 1.5 hours for your trial - your trial isn’t something we want to rush. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to travel between your hair and makeup trials.
