Frequently asked questions

Weddings

  • Please submit an enquiry via the Wedding Services page.

  • Most Mirror Mirror brides make their bookings 6 to 24 months in advance.

If you know you would like to book Mirror Mirror, please do so as soon as possible to ensure your date isn’t taken by somebody else.

  • Absolutely!

Your booking fee secures me for your wedding date, which means I’ll block the entire day out for you, and everything else (such as the final number of people in your booking) will be finalised 6 weeks before your wedding.

  • Within about 3 months of your wedding is best, but any time is fine.

Ideally, having your makeup and hair trial on the same day is a great way to get a visual of how everything will look together.

I don’t recommend trying to schedule your makeup trial around your hen’s or engagement party, as these usually happen on a weekend, and I’m generally booked on weekends with other weddings.

If you’re having a shoot with your wedding photographer, this could be a good time to try and have your hair and makeup trial, so you can see how it photographs.

  • You are most welcome to do this, but please be aware that I do not hold your wedding date without a booking fee, so your date could become booked out before you’ve had a trial and had a chance to make a decision.

Please check out my work, Instagram and Google reviews to see if I am the right fit for you.

  • There’s no limit to where I’ll travel!

I am based in Toowoomba, and I charge a per kilometre travel fee (to and from your location), and if required, I also charge for accommodation and meals for the night before.

Depending where you’re located, other charges may apply, like flights and hire car.

  • Mobile makeup is available to anybody, so your booking can be made up of anyone (not just brides and bridesmaids).

  • Mobile tanning is available - please contact me to discuss this.

  • My bookings are capped at a maximum of 7 people in metro areas - this allows me to take care of myself whilst also ensuring I can deliver the highest standard of makeup.

In rural/regional areas, I am happy to discuss the option of larger booking numbers. In this instance, I will normally need to allow time for a break, so please understand that this could mean quite an early start time for you.

  • Makeup takes 50 minutes per person, and all makeup will be completed 1.5 to 2 hours before your first look or ceremony (whichever comes first).

  • All makeup looks/styles are the same cost.

  • A standard makeup trial is included in your wedding makeup package.

This includes 1 makeup look for 1 person, and takes about 1.5 hours.

A deluxe trial includes up to 2 looks for 1 person, and takes about 2.5 hours - this is best if you are torn between two different makeup looks.

If you’re not sure what makeup you want, or don’t know much about makeup, a standard trial is more than enough - you don’t need a deluxe trial.

If you’d like trials for other people, like mums and bridesmaids, these can be booked and paid for separately.

  • One standard trial is included in your makeup package - this can be used for one person, usually the bride.

Additional trials for other people can be booked and paid for separately.

  • My main studio is based in Toowoomba, and I also have a pop up studio about 4 times a year in Chandler, Brisbane.

  • No - if you choose not to have a trial, we will instead need to allow extra time on the day of your wedding to consult and make adjustments, so the cost of your trial covers either the time spent at a trial, or time spent on the day.

Formals

  • The time doesn’t matter, as long as you allow:

    • 1 hour for makeup

    • 30 minutes to travel between hair and makeup appointments

    • 1 hour for hair

    • 30 minutes to get home and get dressed

  • I allow 1 hour for your appointment.

  • It doesn’t matter, as long as your hairstylist isn’t planning on washing your hair.

  • Book your tan for 1 day before your first formal. For example, if you’re having makeup done at 11am on the day of your first formal, ensure your tan is around 11am the day before.

  • Definitely! Not only will we be able to ensure the look you want suits you, we’ll also be able to save time on the day of your formal, because we won’t need to do a consultation about your makeup look.

  • 2 days before your formal, and 1-2 days before your makeup trial.

  • The night before

    1. Cleanse your face twice.

    2. Complete a gentle exfoliation using either a chemical exfoliant or gentle scrub, or if you’ve not used either of these products before, use your usual cleanser and buff gently with a warm washer.

    3. Apply a hydrating serum (like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide) - if you haven’t used these products before, skip this step.

    4. Don’t apply any other serums, and skip any active ingredients (such as retinol and vitamin C).

    5. Apply moisturiser.

    6. Apply lip balm (skip this step if you don’t normally use one).

    On the day

    3. Don’t apply any other serums, and skip any active ingredients (such as retinol and vitamin C).

  • Yes, individual false lashes are included in every application if you wish to have them. I do not use strip lashes.

  • You don’t need to supply a thing! If you have a favourite lippy you’d like to wear, bring it with you, otherwise I supply absolutely everything.

  • My kit caters for all allergies and sensitivities, all I ask is that you disclose absolutely anything you’re allergic to when I ask.

Some common allergies are: SPF, latex, citrus, fruits/vegetables/extracts, silicone, fragrance and linalool.

Makeup lessons

  • I offer 1:1 makeup lessons for the everyday person and for makeup artists.

  • No, sorry. I prefer to tailor a lesson to each individual, and I don’t feel I can do this in a group setting.

The Tanning Lounge

  • Approximately 10 minutes per person plus some extra time to relax and enjoy the space.

A booking of 5 people, for example, would take approximately 1hr 10m.

  • No - we will be in touch with you the week before your booking to check for beverage preferences and dietary requirements, as these can all be catered to.

  • Of course! Just specify any dietary requirements you may have at the time of booking (a surcharge from our caterer may apply).

  • Definitely! The Tanning Lounge is designed for groups to enjoy a bit of down time together, so even if some people are not having spray tans, we’d still love to host them.

Spray tans

  • 2-3 days before a wedding, formal or event; 1 day before leaving to go on a holiday.

  • Wash off times vary from 45 minutes to 4 hours, so please make sure:

    • you can access a shower within 1 hour of your appointment; and

    • you don’t make any plans for the 6 hours following your spray tan.

  • Hair removal should be done at least 24 hours before your tan appointment.

Hair removal done within 24 hours will affect the final result of your tan, and may result in streakiness and patching.

  • Your nails should be done 24 or more hours before your spray tan appointment.

Nails done within 24 hours of a spray tan will affect the final tan result.

  • In the weeks leading up: exfoliate once a week, moisturise daily and drink at least 2 litres of water.

24 hours before: ensure hair removal is done, and give your skin one last gentle exfoliation, followed by moisturiser.

On the day: shower 2+ hours before your appointment, and arrive to your appointment completely clean (no moisturiser, perfume, deodorant, band-aid/strapping tape residue).

  • Sunburn dries out the skin, as does the active ingredient in spray tan.

As a result, any sun damage you’ve had in the 6 weeks leading up to your tan may result in peeling.

PLEASE ADVISE US BEFORE WE START YOUR TAN if you have been sunburnt in the 6-8 weeks before your tan, so we can help you achieve the best result.

Peeling will become noticeable as soon as the tan is sprayed onto your skin - if this is the case, moisturise the peeling area only, as soon as you’ve rinsed your tan off. Do not moisturise any other skin until 24 hours later.

Unfortunately sunburn is the worst enemy of spray tan, and if skin starts to peel after a tan, there will almost always be a noticeable contrast between peeled skin and tanned skin, and is essentially unavoidable.

  • We provide disposable g-strings and a cap for your hair, but you can choose to wear as much or as little clothing as you like - just remember, anything you wear during a tan will leave tan lines.

  • Wear something loose, preferably a dress made of natural fibres (eg cotton) and a pair of flip flops. It’s best not to put your bra back on, as it will leave marks in your tan.

If you wear pants or anything that needs to be pulled up, you will run the risk of staining your hands with tan, so a dress is best.

    1. Stay cool and dry, and avoid any tight clothing or anything that will leave marks in your tan.

    2. Rinse your tan off at the recommended time, in a lukewarm shower, and pat or air dry.

    3. Do not moisturise, wear tight clothing (like bras, tights, etc), or sweat, for 24 hours.

    4. After 24 hours, have another shower and recommence moisturising.

  • Yes, spray tanning is pregnancy safe. If you are feeling uncertain, please see your doctor for medical clearance first.

  • Yes you can! We generally like to avoid spraying your breasts, as your tan will transfer onto bub’s face for 24 hours after your spray tan.

  • If you’re not careful, yes.

Bring an umbrella, and make sure your post-tan change of clothing covers as much skin as possible (like a tracksuit).

If any rain drops hit your fresh tan, quickly buff them out with a makeup brush - they may still be visible at the time, but you won’t be spotty when your tan develops.

  • No - your tan will take 24 hours to develop in full, and you won’t see any hint of colour until at least 8 hours after you’ve rinsed your tan.

  • Your tan will last 5 to 10 days depending on how well you care for it.

  • We use Bella Bronze, Naked Tan and Black Magic.
